Head of Sound - Outside Broadcast (OB)

About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an Outside Broadcasting Management Team.
Head of Sound Department - you will play a pivotal role in orchestrating sound operations and ensuring top-tier audio quality across our OB projects. This position demands not only high proficiency in managing sound equipment and systems, along with a strong grasp of IP technology, but also excellent team management skills.
You will be an integral part of our senior engineering team, overseeing crew scheduling, truck preparation, and contributing to complex projects.

Main Duties

  • Sound Equipment Proficiency: Demonstrate expert knowledge in operating and maintaining sound equipment including Calrec, Hydra 2, RTS, Riedel, and other relevant systems.
  • Technical Expertise: Exhibit a robust understanding of IP technology to optimise sound processes and contribute to technological advancements within the field.
  • Senior Team Collaboration: Work closely with the other members of the senior team to strategies, plan, and execute sound-related initiatives aligned with organisational goals.
  • Crew Management: Liaise with the scheduling teams to manage and schedule sound crew, ensuring their readiness and efficiency for OB assignments.
  • Truck Preparation: Oversee the preparation of sound equipment in our OB trucks stationed at our Greenford base, guaranteeing functionality and readiness for deployment.
  • Project Support: Collaborate with the projects team, contributing sound expertise to deliver projects effectively. Projects include large flyaway builds for complex OBs and bespoke solutions for our wide portfolio of clients.
  • On-Call Availability: Be available for occasional weekend work and on-call duties to address any sound-related emergencies or other requirements that may arise.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in a similar role within the broadcasting or events production industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of sound equipment and a passion for keeping up to date with new technologies.
  • Strong understanding of IP technology related to sound systems such as Dante Audio and AES67.
  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a senior team and contribute to project success.
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekends and be on call when required.

Office Hours : 9am - 5.30pm, Monday to Friday (with opportunity to work from home)
