Graduate Edit Assistant – Media City, Salford

About the Role

Timeline are looking to train a Graduate Edit Assistant working at Timeline’s facility in Media City Salford.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a genuine interest in developing a career in post-production to join our small team. As a graduate you will receive on the job training to help you to setup and support our edit suites and workflows. Some previous knowledge of Avid & Adobe NLE systems along with an understanding of post-production workflows, file formats, codecs and ingest applications is preferential but not essential.

Programme Length

This an 18 month’ development programme giving you the opportunity to expand your knowledge and develop practical skills for an exciting and rewarding career. As a Graduate Trainee, you can expect to put all the theory you have learnt at university into practice within an innovative organisation that will put you at the forefront of new and exciting developments in broadcast technology and prepare you for a long-term career.

Responsibilities and learning objectives

Learning and developing your skills whilst participating in our Graduate Programme will also involve supporting the effective operation and workflows which involves the following:

• Understanding of the fundamentals of file-based editing workflows
• Ingest and transcode media from a variety of sources (camera card, hard drive, file delivery) and ensure outgest requests are carried out to a high standard
• Upkeep of edit, media and storage systems
• Provide front line support and address technical faults in a timely and professional manner
• Communicating and escalating issues as required, and ensuring alternative ways of meeting requirements are identified and implemented in a prompt manner
• Develop and build excellent working relationships with colleagues, production teams, technical operators, and clients
• Prioritise the daily workload to ensure deadlines are met
• Help guide editors, operators and production staff through complex operational scenarios and workflows
• Ensure the day-to-day upkeep of the office
• Maintain an approachable, friendly, and calm manner when dealing with clients and colleagues
• Supporting the operation by preparing operational instructions and communicating changes
• The role will require some runner duties

Training

You will hit the ground running, working directly alongside our skilled engineers, getting hands-on experience operationally supporting transmission, ingest, traffic, outside broadcasts and studio productions for our major broadcast clients. After a full induction, we will also offer you a mix of internal and external training, and you will have access to your own mentor to support your career development.

About You

We don’t need you to have worked in a broadcasting or studio environment before but there are some key requirements:

• A passion for post-production, preferably having experience with edit systems in a post-production environment
• An understanding of file-based formats and codecs
• Knowledge and /or experience with the use and support of Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere and edit storage platforms
• A familiarity of industry standard transcoding tools, such as: Content Agent and Adobe Media Encoder would be highly beneficial but not essential
• Some media management skills.
• The ability to adhere to naming conventions and demonstrate a good eye for detail when dealing with client media
• Customer awareness and good interpersonal skills; able to react tactfully and sympathetically to requests from operators and production staff
• The ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
• Demonstrate clear logical thinking in fault-finding and problem solving.
• Able to distinguish between important and irrelevant information (we will train you in this)
• Demonstrates flexibility and responds very well to new challenges, is open to change(s), shows openness to alternative ways of doing things
• Shows an aptitude and ability to pick up new techniques and skills quickly.
• Ability to remain calm when working under programme and operational pressures

Please note that this role can involve unsociable hours and weekend work.
