Systems Engineer

About the Role

Timeline is recruiting a Systems Engineer to join its Ealing-based Systems Engineering team.

The Systems Engineering team delivers Timeline’s core systems, network and application infrastructure and supports a wide variety of programming for clients such as ITV, BBC, Formula 1, Formula E, SailGP, BT Sport and many more, both from Timeline’s Ealing HQ, where the role is based, and on location around the world.

The successful candidate will display exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills, a proactive attitude, excellent communication, and the ability to confidently work both alone and as part of a wider team.

Main Duties

Day to day duties include the design, delivery, support and maintenance of various broadcast and media systems, with a particular focus on networking, physical and virtual server infrastructure, and storage.

Key tasks include:

• Support and maintenance of existing network, server, storage and broadcast systems
• Working with Project, Resource and Unit Managers to deliver IP-focused solutions for remote and local productions
• Assisting colleagues in the design and deployment of new workflows and solutions
• Network switch and access device configuration for video contribution/distribution workflows, across local and public/private wide-area networks
• Supporting internal and external clients for local, remote and outside broadcast operations as on-shift support engineer

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential Skills

• Excellent grasp of networking principles
• Experience of IP-focused technologies
• Experience with Linux operating systems
• Experience of virtualisation technologies
• Demonstrable experience of switch, router and firewall configuration
• Working knowledge of Internet security principles
• Excellent communication skills

Desirable Skills

• Knowledge of FortiOS, JunOS and Dell FOS
• Experience of cloud platforms and associated automation tools
• Programming/scripting experience
• Experience of IP-focused broadcast technologies
