The Year that was...

December 20th, 2013

2013 kicked off in spectacular style with a monumental build at iCITY as Timeline embarked on one of the largest and quickest broadcast installations in the industry. Working as a lead partner for BT Sport, Timeline were delighted to have been tasked with the end-to-end design and build of the BT Sport production hub, the new home of BT’s sports channels, BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN in readiness for services going live on August 1st.

As this mammoth build at iCITY progressed it was business as usual at our three other sites, covering some of this year’s best Sport, Drama, and Children’s television. With Ealing as a base, the Outside Broadcast team have worked tirelessly covering a spectrum of sporting events. Timeline’s unparalleled flexibility in tapeless production took us to new heights at this year’s Wimbledon with our server system playing an even more integral part of the coverage. We pedalled up some action packed programming on three major cycling tours, the ‘Tour de France’, ‘La Vuelta’ and the ‘Tour of Britain’. We have been at the sidelines of many a race track, from the international F1 circuit to the Great North Run in Newcastle, we even got in the swing of things at ‘The Open’….to name but a few.

Time North celebrated a successful first year at Media City and have enjoyed seeing a variety of BBC Learning and CBBC projects through Post Production. We turned intrepid explorer with CBBC’s ‘Fierce Earth’ and delighted in the thrills and spills of the seaside with brand new CBBC Drama ‘All at Sea’. Settling into their new home at MediaCity, Timeline North have enjoyed collaborations with their like-minded, creative neighbours. Carbon Digital produced CGI for ‘Sacred Wonders’ (BBC Religion & Ethics), which was post-produced at Timeline North. In the lead up to Wimbledon we had the privilege of crafting the acclaimed Andy Murray documentary, ‘The Man Behind the Racquet’, and to top it all Timeline North is now the proud home of an RTS North West Award for our outstanding contribution to ‘Sport’s Personality of the Year’.

Our Soho facility has seen resident award-winning Production Company, Upper Cut Films, produce a feast of compelling one-off documentaries from ‘Theatre Land’ to ‘Imagine – Theatre of War’. Broadwick Street has also been the pied-a-terre for joint ventures between Timeline North and Soho, completing Post Production on Timeline’s first ever feature film, ‘White Settlers’, to be screened in the New Year.

We’ve had a bountiful year of creativity, new technologies and collaboration and we are humbled by the hard work, inspiration and dedication shown by our staff, clients and partners. We’d like to wish you all a very happy and ‘relaxing’ Christmas and we wish you every success in the coming year. Until then, sit back, relax and watch the television you’ve worked so hard to make over the past year.
