Sport Personality of the Year 2013

December 13th, 2013

2012 was an Olympic Year in British sporting history and the outstanding achievements were wholly reflected in last years, award winning, Sports Personality of the Year.

Bradley Wiggins’ triumph at both the Tour de France and the Olympics was further cemented as he secured the prestigious title of Sport Personality 2012, he said of his victory, “To receive it from David Beckham and the Royal Highness is quite something really. It’s never going to get any better, let’s face it”. 2012 was always going to be a tough act to follow, but as a nation we have revelled in another bonanza year of sport and this year has in no way fallen short.

Our appetite for this year’s 60th Anniversary programme has been whetted with the airing of BBC documentary ‘Sport Personality of the Year at 60’. A collective of sporting heroes recalled their memories of the event as the documentary took us on a fond look back over the 60-year history of the accolade. The title has not only sustained relevance over sixty years, but is also deemed one of the most iconic trophies in sport.

Edited by David Horwell and finished at Timeline North we were pleased to be involved this programme, which has been a delightful tease into this weekend’s award show.

Just over a month ago Lead Editor Sport Personality, David Horwell and Post Production Director Timeline North, Eben Clancy collected an RTS North West award on behalf of the Sport Personality editing team, owing special thanks to BBC Sport for entrusting them with such an amazing and prestigious programme.

Eben Clancy said of Sport Personality, “Working on such a acclaimed programme last year and again this year is not something we take for granted, but is a testament to the great team effort between Production and Post”.

Two months ago the editing team at Timeline North began work on this year’s award show. Working closely with Production our team comprising, David Horwell, David Ianson, Steve Williams, Nathan Carpenter, Nick Perry and Phil Bracegirdle, set out to create films that would again move the audience and convey the emotion of the subject through the screen. These beautifully crafted stories are again testament to the clarity of understanding developed between Production and Post.

Editing and Finishing were completed in Avid Symphony. Sound Design, ADR and dub were completed in Pro tools by Richard Lee and Dan Piggott.

These films form part of the most iconic and inspirational sporting award show and Timeline are privileged to have seen this project through Post Production for another consecutive year.
